DAPs Magic Disney News – by Mr. DAPs

According to a New York Times Blog, Rob Ashford (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying) has joined the team that is creating an Alice in Wonderland musical based off Tim Burton’s live action movie. While nothing is confirmed at this point, it is being reported that Tim Burton himself is working on this project. It is still several years from being performed on the stage.

The Alice in Wonderland musical has been considered for stage adaptation by Disney for several months after making over $1Billion worldwide. Currently, Disney Theatrical Productions has two productions opening on Broadway this spring. The first is Newsies The Musical, which had a run in New Jersey last fall to critical acclaim. Peter and the Starcatcher also had a very positive off Broadway run last year. The Jungle Book, Father of the Bride, and Dumbo are several other Disney films that are currently in various stages of production for the theater as well.

Rob Ashford is a Tony winning choreographer and director. He won the Tony for his choreography on Thoroughly Modern Millie in 2002. He has been nominated for the Tony seven times, most recently for his work on How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
