Thor: The Dark World Gets IMAX 3D Treatment

This morning Marvel announced that Thor: The Dark World will be digitally re-mastered and released on IMAX 3D theaters on October 30, 2013.

The movie will mark the third outing for Chris Hemsworth as Thor after first appearing in Thor in 2011 and then Marvel’s The Avengers in 2013. Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, and Tom Hiddleston will all be reprising their roles from the first Thor movie. They will be joined by Stellan Skarsgard, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander and Rene Russo.

In a press release from Marvel Greg Foster, CEO of IMAX Entertainment and Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp said, “Like all the dynamic Marvel characters, Thor has developed a massive global following and we look forward to moviegoers experiencing this highly anticipated next chapter in IMAX 3D.” He added, “We’re excited to continue to build on our flourishing partnership with Marvel and Disney with this iconic property.”

“All the nine realms will be stunningly displayed when ‘Thor: The Dark World’ arrives in IMAX 3D,” said Dave Hollis, Executive Vice President, Theatrical Exhibition Sales and Distribution, The Walt Disney Studios. “We continue to have great success with IMAX and are thrilled to once again work with them to bring the Marvel Universe to life in this premium format.”

According to the IMAX website, “You don’t just hear and see an IMAX movie. You feel it in your bones.” Judging by the size and scope of this movie, this could create one heck of a ride for movie goers come October 30.
