She's Sleeping Beauty But She's Awake

One of the most uncomfortable things for me as an amateur photographer also happens to make for the best pictures. It makes me insanely uncomfortable when someone I am taking a photo of looks directly into the lens. I guess I like to think that as a photographer I’m just another hole in the wall that is observing and documenting events as time goes by. Then there are moments where I’m clearly not just a hidden camera in a wall of people…and it generally leads to some photographs I really like. This photograph is definitely one of them. Yesterday as I was watching Mickey’s Soundsational Parade at Disneyland, Aurora noticed the camera and continued to look at it as she glided by. I kept snapping pictures and was pleased with how they turned out. This was definitely one of my favorites. The rest can be found here.

I’ve noticed that photography is much like life. The best pictures are often the ones you have to be the most uncomfortable for. So, as I strive to become a better photographer… here’s to the discomfort! Each uncomfortable photo hopefully makes me a better photographer and also will hopefully lead to better pictures! What do you think?

Make it a GREAT day!
