Golden Spire Tops Shanghai Disneyland Castle

This week, Shanghai Disneyland reached a fantastic milestone. With construction at full force, the Enchanted Storybook Castle was topped. This magical castle received its top shining spire, a golden spire that is.

Bob Iger, chairman and CEO, and Tom Staggs, chief operating officer, were both on scene to watch the highest point of the castle to be established. The golden spire was placed on one of the eight towers of the castle.

According the Disney Parks Blog, “The castle will be the tallest structure at the resort and the most complex and largest Disney castle ever built.” In addition, this castle has been designed for the people of China meaning much input from all around was taken into consideration.

The golden finial installed this week was made locally in Shanghai and is topped with a peony – the flower of China – which is placed atop a cascade of Disney stars. Another one of the golden finials has traditional Chinese “lucky” cloud patterns, peonies and lotus and features Magnolia flowers — which represent Shanghai — and a Disney crown to symbolize Disney princesses.

Below are a few photos of the recent construction work.

Shanghai Disneyland is set to open next spring.
