Disney Announces Star Wars Land for Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts [Updated]

Disney CEO and Chairman Bob Iger announced that both the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort will be getting a Star Wars Land.  The announcement came to the 7,500 fans in attendance at the end of a panel that was focused on live-action movies. The panel had been covering Star Wars movie news and then ended with the surprise announcement about this new addition to the Disney Parks. Each Star Wars themed area will cover 14 acres where guests will visit a new planet and its spaceport and include two attractions. The new lands will be in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and Disneyland in California.

“I am thrilled to announce the next chapter in the long and exciting history between Disney Parks and Star Wars,” said Iger.  “We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever.  These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”

Two new attractions will be introduced in these new lands. One will give Star Wars fans an opportunity to fly the Millennium Falcon on a secret mission. The second will be a battle experience that will immerse guests in the middle of a battle where they help the Resistance fight the First Order. Guests will also be able to visit the cantina.

For guests visiting Disneyland, DAPs Magic can confirm that this new area will be found in the Big Thunder Ranch area and some backstage locations.

These new lands will also include characters new and old. Are you ready to head to a Galaxy Far Far Away when you visit the Disneyland or Walt Disney World Resort?
