DC’s Epic Adventure: D23 Expo Day 2

Hey everyone! Welcome to this week’s DC’s Epic Adventure! Continuing with my coverage of the D23 Expo, I am moving on to Day 2 of the event. Day 2 was just as jam packed as Day 1 but with fewer celebrity sightings. It was also a day of long lines, starting early in the morning.

Day 2 was the day of the Walt Disney Studios presentation, that meant my day started out waiting in line for that. The wait was well worth it! My 2 favorite parts were the preview for Brave and The Avengers. Both movies look incredible and I can’t wait to see them! Other highlights for me were John Carter, Wreck-It Ralph, and Monsters University. To be honest, there was very little that I wasn’t excited about. This week’s TILT blog will go more in depth about my thoughts on the movies themselves. In addition to the sneak peeks and movie clips, the entire arena was given a cupcake and Brave poster in celebration of Pixar’s 25th Anniversary. I wish we were allowed to take pictures but alas, this was the only panel where they actually confiscated all electronic equipment. I did see a few interesting people sitting around me, in the section my left was Dave Smith and Jim Fielding and in the section to my right was Peter Sohn, the voice of Emile in Ratatouille.

Following the Walt Disney Studios presentation I walked around the exhibit hall a bit and grabbed some photos of the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides display. I ran into IamPumpkinQueen and her daughters, as well as some other people from Twitter and hung out with them for a bit. In my wanderings I met Bill Farmer, the voice of Goofy. In another instance of being in the right place at the right time, I was able to get a photo with him before he left for the day.

After wandering the floor, I headed to Stage 28 to catch the Imagineering’s Guide to Creativity and Innovation panel. The panel was hosted by Marty Sklar and featured several Imagineers who spoke about things they had worked on and how they came up with ideas for their projects. Josh Gorin, Scot Drake, Jodi McLaughlin, Owen Yoshino, Mark (I didn’t catch his last name), Susan Dane, Dex Tanksly, Kim Irvine, and Kevin Rafferty all spoke about various projects they had worked on. It was amazing to hear all of the tidbits and trivia they shared. For example, there are actually 140 different disciplines in Imagineering with 5 strategic focus areas. Also they start to plan things 5-10 years in advance despite not yet having the technology. It was a great panel and it was exciting to be in the same room as so many creative and innovative thinkers.

That wraps up Day 2 of the D23 Expo! Stay tuned for next week’s blog which will feature my 3rd and final day of the Expo. You won’t want to miss it!

Have a Magical Day!
