This week I wanted to give a perspective of Marvel Comics from a friend of mine. It’s easy to be a huge Disney fan and comics fan and sing both their praise. It’s another to be an average comic reader and still say why Marvel Comics has some of the best characters and stories around. Even my friend admitted that he’s more of a DC, specifically Batman, fan but Marvel does an excellent job. I could tell he was honest because he said he likes Marvel overall, but Batman holds the greater place among his favorites. I’ve abbreviated his initials to AN (truly his initials in real life). I hope you enjoy his perspective on Marvel.
Me: What is your favorite Marvel comic and why?
AN: Wolverine and the X-Men. The reason is that he is my favorite X-Men and has a deep background with diverse problems. The X-Men deal with social issues that relate to anyone. Also, Scott Summers (Cyclops) is like Tom Brady (Quarterback for the Patriots) where he’s the golden child and favorite player of the coach (Professor X). It’s good to see Wolverine be the leader now.
Me: Who is your favorite Marvel character and why?
AN: Deadpool. He’s tough. He breaks the fourth wall often. And being a mercenary and assassin, he has a personality that goes with it.
AN: They have really good characters. DC doesn’t have as many. The characters have complex personalities. Even when there’s no action there is still something to cling onto.
Me: Which is your favorite Marvel movie and why?
AN: X-Men: First Class. It has the best X-Men story out of all the films. It has a good combination of plot and depth of background story. There’s still some problems in canon with the comics, but it’s still the best. Like, they messed up with Mystique being part of the X-Men.
And until next time, have a Marvel-ous day!
