Song Saturday: Disney Style (Muppet Show Theme Song)
Now I know what you all are thinking. “The Muppet Show wasn’t a part of Disney! Disney didn’t purchase the Muppets until 2004 and that old show was way back in the 70!” Well you’re all right, but the theme was sung in the latest Muppet film, produced by Disney, so there!
In The Muppets, the gang wants to get back together and do a charity event to save their old studio, where they shot their original show. It’s not only another Muppet movie, but a great homage and tribute to the past, when Jim Henson was at the height of his career and The Muppet Show was dominating television.
One of the best parts about that show was the theme song. It was memorable, catchy, and incredibly infectious. When you heard it, you knew you were going to watch one of the funniest shows in the world. And that’s exactly what the song projected in that minute and a half: raucous, chaotic, and explosive fun. Giving everyone the world’s third greatest gift, laughter!
Before The Muppets came out, the Disney company was heavily promoting the film with lots of viral marketing. One of these was a music video with OK Go and the Muppets. In this video, the wacky gang of misfits invade OK Go’s various music videos (including their famous “treadmill” song, Here It Goes Again) while singing The Muppet Show theme song and that chaos that ensues. It’s hilarious and a great reminder that the Muppets don’t have to move with the trends, but they sure can keep up with them.
