Stop by the park today to wish our opinionated and fiery tempered friend, Donald Fauntleroy Duck, a happy birthday! Donald first squaked his way into the scene on June 9th, 1934 when he made his debut in the Silly Symphony cartoon titled, “”The Wise Little Hen” (“Donald Duck-Cartoon Character”). He soon grew to become one of the most beloved of Disney characters as his temper tantruns but true loyalty to his best friend Mickey Mouse endeared him to audiences.
Donald was originally voiced by Clarence “Ducky” Nash who was succeeded by Disney artist Tony Anselmo 50 years later. The illustrators who first brought our feathered friend to life include Al Taliaferro, Carl Barks, and Don Rosa. Donald has been featured in “Ducktails,” Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” House of Mouse,” and “Kingdom Hearts” among many others bringing him worldwide fame (“Biography for Donald Duck”).
In the words of Walt Disney, “One of the greatest satisfactions in our work here at the studio is the warm relationship that exists within our cartoon family. Mickey, Pluto, Goofy, and the whole gang have always been a lot of fun to work with. But like many large families, we have a problem child. You’re right, it’s Donald Duck” (“Donald Duck:10 Surprising…”). Donald adds spice and excitement to the Disney crew with his adventurous spirit. He even has a warm, fuzzy side as he dotes on his glamorous girlfriend, Daisy Duck.
To find the fiesty fellow just search Disneyland park for a white duck wearing his signature sailor shirt, cap, bow tie (spiffed up for Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary!) and be prepared to meet a guy with a warm heart hidden under a lot of attitude.
