Today it was announced that Jon Favreau will be writing and producing a new live-action Star Wars series. This new series will be appearing on Disney’s new streaming service. This continues a relationship that Favreau has with the Star Wars galaxy. In the past he has played roles on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and also in the soon to be released Solo: A Star Wars Story.

“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform,” says Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. “Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”

Kathleen Kennedy isn’t the only one that is excited about Favreau’s partnership with the future series. Favreau is equally excited. “If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”

Currently there is no release date for this series. This marks the continuation of a partnership between Disney and Favreau that goes back a decade. Favreau helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe by directing and appearing in Iron Man and Iron Man 2. He also served as an executive producer for the Avengers films. On the Disney side of things he directed and produced the live-action The Jungle Book, which won an Academy Award for visual effects. He is also working on the upcoming live-action version of The Lion King which is set to be released in 2019.

What do you think of this upcoming Star Wars live-action series? Are you excited about Jon Favreau’s involvement? What would you like to see this series cover?
