Sleeping Beauty Castle Begins Refurbishment at Disneyland Resort

YouTube player

Sleeping Beauty Castle has begun its refurbishment at the Disneyland Resort. Overnight walls were erected in front of the castle and on its sides. The Fantasyland side of the castle has walls underneath the entrance to the drawbridge and Snow White Grotto area. Currently, guests can walk around the West side of the castle to enter Fantasyland. Guests can also wander around the East side of the castle to see Snow White Grotto. However, they can not enter Fantasyland from that side.

The refurbishment is mainly to repair and refresh the roofing and turrets for the castle. The Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough is still open but will be closing soon as the refurbishment continues. There are no major changes expected for the castle with this refurbishment, just some tender loving care to the crown jewel of Disneyland.

This isn’t the first time the castle has been given some care. Through the years it has received a few enhancements, including the Disney family crest shield, the center stained glass window, and the banners in front of it. The coloring has been tweaked through the years but in general, it maintains a grey, pink, and blue color scheme.

Sleeping Beauty Castle isn’t the only attraction to be refurbished this spring. The Disneyland Resort also will be working on the following attractions:

  • Haunted Mansion, January 7th-17th
  • Sleeping Beauty Castle Exterior, January 7th
  • Grizzly River Run, January 7th
  • Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante, January 14th-17th
  • Enchanted Chamber, January 17th
  • Sleeping Beauty Walkthrough, January 17th
  • “it’s a small world” Holiday, January 22nd-31st
  • Sailing Ship Columbia, January 22nd
  • Fantasmic, January 22nd
  • Splash Mountain, February 4th

  1. I hope for Disney’s sake that the “castle refurbishment” is done by Easter, because my trip to Anaheim during the week after Easter is already planned out and is non-refundable, and I will NEVER give Disney another dime if I am unable to have my picture taken in front of the castle WITHOUT barriers “in the way”…

  2. I’m not excited for the refurb! I am arriving on 10th March for my first visit from the UK and I am sad that I don’t have that magical first time memory of walking up main street and seeing the castle

    1. I hope that there will still be a magical first memory for you and you have a fantastic trip! It’s always hard with the timing of these things! – Mr. DAPs

For the new nighttime show, Mickey’s Mix Magic at Disneyland, will there be fireworks and projections down Main Streets USA even there’s rumor that Sleeping Beauty castle is being renovated on Jan 18 until June?

    1. That is what we are expecting. :) – Mr. DAPs
