About Star Trek: Picard

Star Trek: Picard features Sir Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard, which he played for seven seasons on Star Trek: The Next Generation. The new series will follow this iconic character into the next chapter of his life.

The series is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, James Duff, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers and Aaron Baiers (Secret Hideout) serves as co-executive producer and Kirsten Beyer as supervising producer. Hanelle Culpepper will direct the first two episodes of the series.

So What Did You Think?

I, for one, was completely geeking out while watching this trailer. I even found myself yelling at the screen. I don’t know what I expected from this show (and trailer) but this definitely wasn’t it. It has many more connections to that past than I ever expected. I also like where that it is taking Picard forward as a character. It isn’t just Picard in his normal environment and comfort zone. In fact, he is uncomfortable and admits it. He is looking for where “home” is. It appears that Star Trek: Picard will not just be a new series that moves Jean-Luc Picard forward as a character, it will also be a show that does so while also pulling heavily from the past. There were many references to past Star Trek series. I’m guessing there are more than we realize once we realize who the unnamed girl is. Could she be connected with Spock? Could she be connected with Seven of Nine? Only time will tell! What can be told is that this show looks really good. If this series is as good as the trailer seems to indicate it is, Alex Kurtzman will soon become not just the caretaker of Star Trek, but the beloved one. I can’t wait for this show to arrive on CBS All Access in January.
