The first day of the D23 Expo was as legendary as one could imagine. Before the crack of dawn, thousands of Disney fans had descended into Anaheim and the Anaheim Convention Center for the start of this “ultimate Disney fan event.”
The day began for many fans with the Disney Legends ceremony. A class of twelve new inductees was honored during this ceremony, moderated by Disney CEO and Chairman Bob Iger. The event was touching at times, funny at others, and also had its magical moments. A full rundown can be seen and read here.
Many other fans waited in line for merchandise and to go fo the exhibit hall floor. DAPS MAGIC correspondent Caitie started the day there with a live-stream. She then went on to compete in a game with the voice of Mickey Mouse Bret Iwan on hand called the Tsum Tsum Festival. Thankfully, another team member Roger was able to capture this! Throughout the day a stage show called The Expo Show took place at center stage on the exhibit hall floor. It was hosted by Bret Iwan (voice of Mickey Mouse), Ashley Eckstein (voice of Ahsoka Tano, Her Universe), Bill Rogers (voice of Disneyland) and Camille Dixon (voice of Disney California Adventure). The shows were a lot of fun as the four clearly enjoy being together and geeking out together. In one show, Eckstein showed her new line of Mickey Ears and also some new dresses. Bret Iwan also showcased Mickey Ears that he had designed along with some of his art!
Perhaps the biggest breaking news of the day though came from the Disney+ panel. There, a whole host of new shows were announced. Highlights of the Disney+ panel included the arrival of Ewan McGregor confirming that an Obi-Wan Kenobi series in the works for Disney+. A new Muppets show is on the way called Muppets Now. Also, Lizzie Maguire is making a return! Trailers were also shown for many of the movies coming to Disney+ including Lady and the Tramp, Noelle, and more. A new trailer for The Mandalorian was also released. Several new series were also announced by Marvel. All in all, it was an incredible panel. Read about it all here.
